Steuben County Sheriff's Office

Under the leadership of Sheriff James Allard, the Steuben County Sheriff's Office has redoubled its efforts to remove drunk and drugged drivers from the roadways in Steuben County. Sheriff Allard, and the Steuben County Sheriff's Office, identified and addressed a need within Steuben County to target drunk and drugged driving. The Sheriff's Office addressed the need to target enforcement by increasing staffing at designated times utilizing flexible scheduling, and assigning interdiction units specifically for narcotics interdiction and DWI enforcement. Statistically, the Interdiction Unit has been responsible for approximately 33% of this agencies total DWI/DWAI arrests since May of 2018. It should also be noted that, as a whole, the Steuben County Sheriff's Office has recorded a 132% increase in DWI/DWAI arrests from 2017 to 2018 (from 55 to 128 arrests). This includes 5 Leandra’s Law arrests. DWAI Drug arrests rose from 7 in 2017 to 26 in 2018. This is a 73% increase.

The work ethic, dedication, and positive attitude in the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office are infectious and likely have been a significant factor in the 132% increase in DWI/DWAI arrests.

The Steuben County Jail has initiated an Inmate Garden Program
