Intensified Traffic Posts (ITP) are initiated as the result of specific citizen complaints of specific traffic problems. Often these complaints involve speeding or other moving violations in a residential area. Any member of the Steuben County Sheriff's Office may initiate an ITP. Members of the public are encouraged to contact their town supervisor regarding any specific traffic problems. The town supervisor will contact the Sheriff for a need for an ITP in a certain area. Upon receipt of a complaint, a member will advise dispatch and a CR number will be assigned. Typically, a minimum of four separate patrols, for a minimum of 30 minutes each will be completed. Each ITP patrol will advise dispatch of the length of patrol, the number of vehicles observed and the number of violators noted/ticketed. Upon completion of minimum patrols, the Sheriff will respond to the complainant by letter, advising of the results. Some ITP may necessitate more than four patrols or more than 30 minutes each. Following completion of the ITP, the area will be checked for continuing problems during routine patrols. When appropriated the radar set with the display board may be utilized to assist in creating patrol visibility in an ITP area.
