For Volunteers

Welcome to AmeriCorps Seniors. If you are age 55 or older, then we want to get to know you!

AmeriCorps Seniors is made up of three distinct projects; the Senior Companions Program (SCP), the Foster Grandparents Program (FGP), and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP). For more information on AmeriCorps Seniors, click here. For the past 50 years, Steuben County has successfully engaged active older adults in our RSVP project. The RSVP project is partnered with 60 agencies serving Steuben and offers a wide variety of assignments where you devote your time, energy, and passion.

Our primary focus area is "Healthy Futures." AmeriCorps Seniors volunteer concentrate a majority of their efforts on supporting independent living for seniors, addressing food insecurity, leading others in making healthier lifestyle changes, and assisting others with accessing benefits and care.

But AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers don't stop there. They also:

  • Serve in Head Start classrooms to help prepare children for educational success
  • Act on boards and councils, assisting nonprofits with building capacity and strengthening programs
  • Help others improve their economic outlook by improving literacy skills, securing safe housing, and learning to manage their money
  • Support other activities that are priorities for our community, like animal shelters, museums, libraries, and much more!

Eligibility

AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers in the RSVP project serve at will, anywhere from 1-40 hours per week - as much as you would like. They also serve without compensation but can be reimbursed for mileage and other expenses related to service.
